Human Resources / Accounting Assistant
The Human Resources Assistant will work under the direction of the HR Director, while spending a portion of their time on designated Accounting tasks (Accounting background not required). The HR Assistant is responsible for the administrative support of day-to-day human resource operations.
PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Prepare and process biweekly payroll (weekly for union); review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions
- Maintain employee personnel files and other record keeping
- Responsible for being the main point of contact for all payroll related matters and respond to time-sensitive and/or confidential matters in a timely manner
- Assist with the administration of company benefits
- Reconcile the quarterly and year-end tax returns, and W-2's, completed by the payroll provider to ensure accuracy of reporting and payments
- Record changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records
- Assist with recruitment by screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and processing pre-employment screenings
- Assist employees and supervisors with basic interpretation of HR policies and procedures
- Respond to reference checks and verifications of employment status
- Prepare payroll journal entries
- Maintain vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations
- Assist in 401K and Workman's Comp Audit, along with various other HR projects as requested
- Accounting functions include billing for the company's various divisions, and entering Palette payables and issuing checks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
The ideal candidate possesses the ability to use professional discretion in dealing with confidential matters, maintains an effective flow of communication, and is able manage a multi-faceted workload while meeting deadlines. ADP payroll experience is a plus.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
